What Are the Benefits of a Saltwater Gargle ?

A saltwater gargle is an easy, affordable home remedy that helps soothe minor mouth and throat discomfort and may prevent some infections. It works by drawing water out of oral tissues and creating a barrier against pathogens, reducing inflammation.

Uses:

It’s commonly used for mild sore throats from colds, flu, or allergies. It also supports oral health by protecting gums, reducing plaque, and easing canker sore pain.

How to use:

Mix ¼ to ½ teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water (warm or cool). Gargle in the throat, swish around the mouth, then spit out.

Safety:

Do not swallow. Excess salt intake can cause dehydration or raise blood pressure. Safe for adults and children who can gargle and spit.

Optional:

Add honey, lemon, garlic, or herbs to improve taste.
