Do you know about metabolic bone diseases??
Types??
What is the difference between osteoporosis and osteomalacia???
Let’s discuss
Metabolic bone diseases are conditions that affect the strength and structure of bones due to disturbances in minerals like calcium, phosphate, or vitamin D
Common types include osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, Paget’s disease, hyperparathyroidism-related bone disease, renal osteodystrophy, and osteogenesis imperfecta
Osteoporosis is characterized by a reduction in bone density and mass, leading to fragile bones and a high risk of fractures. It usually occurs in older adults, especially postmenopausal women. The bones are normally mineralized but are reduced in quantity
Osteomalacia, on the other hand, is due to defective mineralization of the bone matrix, often caused by vitamin D deficiency. It results in soft bones, bone pain, and muscle weakness. It’s more common in adults with poor nutrition, malabsorption, or chronic kidney disease
In short, osteoporosis = less bone, osteomalacia = soft bone
Very helpful.
osteoporosis
A disorder in which strength and density of bone get weakens
osteomalacia
A condition in which bones become soft due to defective mineralisation of bine matrix
Nice information..
Informative .
Great Explanation.
For more concise and simple explanation, we can understand the metabolic Bone diseases as the diseases in which the strength and the density of the bone decreases because of the improper balance between the bone forming cells that is osteoblasts and osteoclasts.
In osteoporosis, pores are formed in the bones and the density of bone decreases.
Osteomalacia is a condition that is occur because of the deficiency of vitamin D in the body.
The same disease in the children is called as Rickets.
