Werewolf syndrome 🐺 - real or fake ?

It is real. It is called Hypertrichosis or Werewolf syndrome. It causes excessive growth of hair all around a patients body making them look like a werewolves from folk stories we have heard. It is one of the most rare dermatological disorder.

Cause - Congenital (inherited/spontaneous) or Acquired hypertrichosis ( due to medications/metabolic disorders)

Symptoms- Patchy or generalized thick hair growth on body including face, arms and torso

Treatment - No permanent cure found yet so treatment of underlying conditions is done and there are hair removal options like laser therapy. Psychological support is also provided as this hinders ability to socialize leading to feelings of under-confidence and isolation

Here is a reference article about a boys experience with this syndrome

Very interesting!

I remember reading somewhere that minoxidil, used in alopecia treatment, might be associated with hypertrichosis in offspring if exposed during pregnancy.

it deeply affects mental and social well-being too. While there’s no permanent cure, supportive care, hair removal treatments, and psychological support can make a big difference.
