Whenever I get drained ending up thinking that medicine is quite boring, it blows a shot marking that it is indeed peculiar. One such case which was very fascinating was this Mermaid syndrome.
Recently in our hospital we witnessed the live delivery of a baby with marked anomalies and underdeveloped features. What was so interesting was the adherence of the lower limb without the presence of the genital system. The first thought to encroach my mind immediately after witnessing the condition was, is this what they call as mermaid? But practically, this was a complete clinical scenario and this disease is undoubtedly fatal.
Sounds interesting right? What we thought as some created stories, as a fantasy is not just an imagination anymore. It is indeed hypothetical to link this because this is a fatal disease but what needs to be understood is that somewhere all the made up stories take to have a correlation with real life in its most bizarre way and as humans we have got to experience, visualize and segregate between what’s right, what’s needed and what not.
