In a group of participants half group is treated with placebo and other half is treated with oral product containing amla fruit. After 12 weeks it is found that the group treated with oral product of amla fruit has help in treating the androgenetic hair loss in women and increase the anagen phase (growth producing phase of the hair cycle).
Along with reduced hair fall and increased growth producing phase amla also offers other benefits to hair such as

Amla – More Than Just “Hair Food”
Really interesting study! Amla has always been a part of traditional remedies, but it’s great to see clinical data supporting its role in female androgenetic alopecia. Extending the anagen phase is a big deal for hair regrowth.
Other fruits & veggies that help with hair health:
Spinach & Moringa – Rich in iron and vitamin C, prevent hair thinning due to anemia.
Sweet Potatoes – High in beta-carotene, converted to vitamin A, keeps scalp moisturized.
Pumpkin Seeds & Nuts – Great source of zinc, essential for reducing shedding.
Berries (Blueberries, Strawberries) – Packed with antioxidants, improve scalp circulation.
: Food is not just fuel—it’s medicine for hair too. Amla is the star, but a balanced diet with micronutrients is equally important.
What do you think: Should supplements (like oral Amla extract) be the first choice for hair loss, or should we focus on dietary intake first?

Amla really works well for hair by reducing fall and improving growth. Apart from hair, it also helps boost immunity, improves digestion, controls blood sugar, supports heart health, and keeps skin glowing. Truly a super fruit.

This post is really informative and shows how natural remedies like amla can support hair health. It’s great to know that amla not only reduces hair fall but also boosts the growth phase. Other fruits like guava (rich in vitamin C) and vegetables like spinach (full of iron and folate) also help in reducing hair loss. Carrots and sweet potatoes give beta-carotene which supports scalp health.

Phyllanthus emblica L. (also popularly known as amla) is a tree native to the India and Southeast Asia regions that produces fruits rich in bioactive compounds that could be explored as part of the increasing interest in naturally occurring compounds with biological activity. Thus, this review aims to highlight the nutritional aspects, rich phytochemistry and health-promoting effects of amla. Scientific evidence indicates that polyphenols are central components in fruits and other sections of the amla tree, as well as vitamin C. The rich composition of polyphenol and vitamin C imparts an important antioxidant activity along with important in vivo effects that include improved antioxidant status and activity of the endogenous antioxidant defense system.
