The horrors of CNS examination

I remember how we were taught CNS examination, told to polish off the point in our McLeod’s manual and walk to the postings next day and demonstrate it in the patient.
It is safe to say, 2 out of 40 in the unit were actually able to remember and pull it off.
The Cranial nerves examination, the associated reflexes, the pathways and the tests were a burn to our brains.
Well into final year, we gathered the courage to begin proper central nervous system examinations and carried the kits as many times as required.

As per a latest interview with a top neurosurgeon in Delhi, the very same fear of CNS examination is what holds a lot of people from venturing into the field of neurology and neurosurgery.

What were the examinations that you all found hard to remember and gracefully perform under the terrifying gaze of your examiners???

I didn’t liked it at first and then seeing it’s vast syllabus I got scared

CNS is like the controller of our body.
It includes brain, spinal cord.
It’s very difficult to get control over the nerves as they are very sensitive.

Central Nervous system is most complex system of our body. The examination can be challenging and frightening for many.

At first, I freeze when examining patients. But once I figure out the complaint and signs, it feels like solving a mystery way and less scary. until the prof asks, ‘Anything else’ :smiling_face_with_tear:
