The Body Keeps the Feelings We Never Express

We often think emotions exist only in the mind…but the body remembers too.

Few days back, one young patient came in opd for pain at the back and knee..and this without any ageing evidence – with proper history taking (as emphasis in homeopathy) we found that he has been gone through severe disrespect,he has severe feeling of being insulted, changrin and having anger & frustration..which he can’t able to through it out..— All these land up him in this severe lower backache & knee pain..

By this case we learnt that every suppressed emotion is stored in our body..and can influence posture, breathing patterns, muscle tension, sleep, digestion, and even pain perception.

That “heavy chest” during grief, the “knot in stomach” during anxiety,or tight shoulders during stress are not just metaphors.

We as human beings are not always able to express our emotion..and we suppressed it,but here is a way out to release this holding emotions:

It’s yogic practice:some posses in our ancient yogic science is great which relieves these emotions..

• Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana)

• Fish Pose (Matsyasana)

• Legs-Up-The-Wall (Viparita Karani)

• Camel Pose (Ustrasana)

• Cat-Cow Stretch

Have you ever heard about this concept?? Or do you feel this type of emotional pain?

Nicely written

This is known as Somatisation - physical manifestation of emotional stress; there are numerous ways in which this can happen

There is a lot of research on this out there, would be an interesting read for some.

A few years back, I used to experience severe headache and neck pain ,I tried changing pillow, sleeping position but neither helped and that is when I consulted doctor. The doctor said it is related to stress that my body is unable to deal with. There are also people with stress induced coughing issues .So it is indeed true that body keeps feelings we never express.

Body does remember everything and every disease starts with one phrase “am not good enough at” , if one tries to sit with it and process the incident and able to forgive oneself and the other one , it, can get relieved

Our feelings in our day to day activities affect our health. If we are happy our health will be positive and all other sad things will our body in negative way.

Yes, I’ve felt this too. Emotions don’t stay in our heads, they settle in the body. The backache from swallowed anger, the tight chest from unshed grief, the knot in the stomach that won’t let go. We hold what we can’t say. Yoga poses like pigeon, child’s pose, and camel don’t just stretch muscles; they quietly release what we’ve been carrying. Your case reminded me that healing isn’t just about fixing the pain, it’s about listening to what the body is trying to tell us.
