Corruption in Medicine - Indian Style!
India is known to be a spiritual (aadhyatmik/ आध्यात्मिक ) country. We are probably the most spiritual country in the world. Religious matters rule our lives - pooja path, prabhat feri, jagran, dhaarmik mela, kumbh, maha kumbh, regularly holding bhandara, maata ke darshan, paying visits to guru, baba, and of course 33 crore devi -devta: ordinary Indian lives are impregnated thouroghly with all this. We take the names of sacred deities day and night indicating how our lives are thoroughly interlaced with religious fervor.
Yet, when it comes to “upholding the Dharma”, we Indians have proven to be highly unethical, corrupt and unprincipled lot.
Look at the latest corruption or scam that is still unfolding. And not to forget the arrest of Montu Patel, President of Pharmacy Council of India who was arrested 2 days ago on corruption charges. It is said that this guy was very close to the central BJP leadership, including our Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.
As per the news, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has exposed one of India’s largest medical college scams, involving a widespread bribery network spanning multiple states. The scandal implicates senior officials from the Ministry of Health, National Medical Commission (NMC) members, top educationists, middlemen, private medical college representatives, and a self-styled godman, Ravi Shankar Maharaj, also known as Rawatpura Sarkar.
