Corruption has existed as long as the history of mankind. The noble profession of medical sciences has not remain untouched from the fangs of corruption, graft and opaque practices.
Please tell me instances of corruption that you have seen/heard of medical sciences and healthcare sciences.
#Corruption
I have seen a local doctor prescribing expensive company’s medicine rather than prescribing same salt medicine which was cheaper.
Personally I feel because of these tie-ups between pharma companies and doctors, it is getting difficult for low socioeconomic people to afford healthcare and treatment.
Unfortunately, majority of doctors in India do it. They take cuts and commissions from pharma companies as well as labs/ diagnostic centers. This is our cultural norm, so to say (not justifying it). Corruption is a part of Indian life.
I’ve seen many medical professionals giving fake sickness certificate and hospital admission bills etc to receive money from insurance companies which is shared between doctor n the patient
Very true and it is highly unfortunate
I saw on my friend’s mom
She is a well know doctor
Her daughter who is my classmate
She didn’t have any type of disability ( admitted by herself only )
But she got an admission due to her disability
I have seen bribery for medical admissions, unnecessary tests done for money, favoritism in job postings, counterfeit medicines being sold, and pharmaceutical companies pushing expensive drugs unethically.
I have seen corruption in medicine in form of bribery, kickbacks, and fraud.
It compromises patient care and safety, eroding trust.
Conflict of interest and substandard care are also issues.
Consequences include inefficient resource allocation.
Strengthening regulations and promoting transparency can help.
Accountability and ethics are crucial to addressing corruption.
Hospital administrations refusing patient admission to wards because the beds that are left are for people who are willing to pay extra for them.
