Water is super important for your body to work right. Whether you’re at home, outside in the heat, or not feeling well, drinking enough fluids is key to staying healthy.
Here are some easy tips to help you stay hydrated.
Easy Ways to Drink More Water Every Day
Getting into the habit of drinking water is simple. Try these tips:
- Keep water with you: Carry a water bottle in your bag or at your desk so you can take a sip anytime.
- Set a reminder: Use your phone to remind you to drink water every hour.
- Eat foods with water: Snack on things like watermelon, cucumbers, oranges, or celery.
- Make it taste good: If you don’t like plain water, add lemon, cucumber, or mint leaves for flavor.
What to Do If You Have Diarrhea
When you have loose motions, your body loses water and important minerals (called electrolytes) fast. Drinking just plain water isn’t enough to replace them.
- ORS is best: Drink an Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS). You can buy packets at a pharmacy and mix them with clean water. It helps replace what your body lost.
- Drink little by little: Take small sips often instead of drinking a whole glass quickly.
- Skip these drinks: Stay away from soda, coffee, strong tea, and very sugary juices. They can make you feel worse.
- Try home drinks: If you don’t have ORS, sip on coconut water, clear soup (broth), or water with a tiny pinch of salt and a little sugar.
What to Do If You Feel Weak After Being in the Sun
Feeling dizzy, tired, or weak after being in the sun means you might be overheated and dehydrated. Here’s what to do:
- Get out of the sun right away: Go sit in the shade or an air-conditioned room.
- Cool down: Loosen your clothes and put a cool, wet cloth on your face and neck.
- Drink slowly: Sip cool water or a sports drink. Don’t drink ice-cold water too fast or it might hurt your stomach.
- Take a break: Stop what you’re doing and rest until you feel better. If you don’t improve, ask a doctor for help.
