A very important and sensitive topic that needs more awareness and discussion. I think understanding the psychological, medical, and social aspects together is essential for prevention, better support for survivors, and creating a safer society.
Important and sensitive topic discussed thoughtfully.Prevention, mental health awareness, and survivor support all deserve equal attention.
This is like an common crime story of our society every action is taken after the damage. Its same with our health like we don’t take precautionary measures and don’t take the problem seriously until it produces harmful impact on our body!
No, I don’t think we focus enough on it. We wait for headlines, then demand punishment, instead of investing in consent education, early psychological intervention, offender rehabilitation, and survivor‑centred systems that could quietly prevent the next assault.
I don’t think we focus on the psychological and preventive aspects of sexual violence, we only react after the incident has occurred. Many of the individuals won’t come forward to openly talk about sexual violence they have experienced because it is still considered a taboo topic in many communities. It’s important that the affected individuals receive proper emotional and psychological support.
Society has become conditioned to reactive jistice off late, only wanting to focus on punishment after such tragedies. We should start focusing on the cause, the abusers, why they do it, like distorted views on consent, lack of empathy, and impulse control, prevention requires shifting our focus towards education on these topics, mental health screenings, but also dismantling the system of power dynamics that drive sexual violence to prevent such events, rather than changing punishment clauses.
I think the society acts on the basis of the timeline of the incident
If an incident is recent no matter what signs a victim is showing the society and gov in most cases acts vigorously
If a person faced sexual violence a long time ago and it still has an impact on them subconsciously they’re often asked to move on and let it go
Victims should always be regularly checked upon and the already existing laws should be implemented without being biased on who the culprit is or who they belong to or what connections they have in the government
I think we often focus on the punishment more, but prevention, education about consent and victims rehabilitation deserve attention too. Mental health support should be made accessible to the victims and they should be encouraged for availing these services.
I think Strong laws and punishment are essential, but they should be complemented by evidence-based prevention strategies, including education about consent, early identification of high-risk behaviors, mental health support, and public awareness. It is necessary to educate the society and also punish the person how are involved in sexual harrasment cause.
Absolutely needed perspective, Sexual violence holds psychiatric factor first afterwards forensic science comes into act , let me try to elaborate on the basis of my knowledge and perspective : When a person commits act of sexual assault, he or she must have think or visualised it earlier in their minds , Humans have great power and ability to imagine and visualise the scenarios, after person lose his or her ability to differentiate psychological factors and behavioral responses in short unable to interpret their action - outcome scenario they lead to crime , motive could be anything like jealousy, heartbreak , psychopath behaviour, loneliness, etc . Which leads to crime of sexual assault and Forensic science takes the role . Recently a new chapter of Forensic Psychiatry is added in our curriculum
Sexual violence is a major public health and legal issue in India.
From a forensic medicine perspective the focus is on providing immediate medical care and documenting injuries and assisting legal investigation.
From psychiatric perspective survivors may experience anxiety depression. Early counselling can help to mental recovery of patients.
Absolutely this is a alarming condition in India where people do not come forward to acknowledge because of fear, shame, financial instability and lack of proper support system as well there are underprivileged people in society who lack education and think this is so common and as to be tolerated. Media plays a major role in shaping this issue. Even though there are preventive measures implicated , it needs to be fully enforced and executed properly.
In my opinion society often reacts only after crime happens . Greater emphasis should be placed on psychological support , consent education , early intervention. Prevention is just as important as ensuring justice for survivors.
In this Society everyone reacts only after the crime has already happened. I think True changes require education about consent, boundaries , good touch bad touch from an early age and open conversations at home with parents , family , friends and in schools, and there should be comfortable accessible environment for mental health support for survivors. And about the Prevention is not just the responsibility of law , it is responsibility of every family, every parent every school and every community.
Drug addictors are the one who involve in such activities and crimes.
The real thief is such content that triggers them.
Social media should be banned for certain ages and proper literacy should be improved to avoid POCSO and women related crimes.
Sexual violence is an alarming threat in India. Sex education, gender discrimination, substance abuse are key factors contributing to this crime. I strongly plead to government not to take necessary action when crime is reported, instead implementation of strong rules and regulations will reduce these crime in future.
Society first needs to acknowledge that Any type of Violence, Especially Sexual Violence is a sign of severely criminal level and derogatory behavior and it should not be ignored or reacted upon later stages, smallest step in it needs to be addressed and prevented in future, with help of Public Awareness and sentiment followed by action. Because Prevention is always any day better than cure.
In many places, still the victim is blamed for the sexual assualt. Victims undergo through post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression and become vulnerable. Society wants to change but no body wants to take action. A strict law must be made and society must be made aware about the psychological condition or trauma a patient can have post the assault.
Yes, the issue here is society’s perspective on such crimes and victim-shaming. The root problem behind it is ignoring the crimes’ aftereffects and the victim’s mental health, leading to isolation and non-acceptance.
Yes, this is a very serious issue. Sexual assault remains a significant concern in India, particularly affecting women and children. Many incidents go unreported due to fear, and societal pressure. It is essential for ensuring justice and providing appropriate medical and emotional support.
