Population a sign of development or deterioration ?! World population day.... July 11

Increasing population in developing countries like India has been a problem since years. Increasing population means limited resources, more poverty that causes financial crunch and will either lead to death or increase crime rate.

Doctors , nurses and other healthcare professionals plays a huge role in educating people about family planning

What can be some ways that we can educate people for planning a family according to available resources??

Let’s talk !! :seedling:

We can educate people through community talks, school health programs, social media, and involving local health workers. Promoting awareness about contraception, financial planning, and the importance of spacing children helps families make informed choices based on their resources.

•Rapid growth can strain resources like food, water, housing, and jobs.
•High population density can worsen pollution, congestion, and pressure on public services.
•Countries with very high fertility rates may struggle to educate and employ their young people, leading to poverty cycles.

With India’s population currently around 1.46 billion, educating about family planning is crucial. Key strategies include:

  • Community outreach: ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, and local leaders provide direct, trusted information.
  • Mass media: Radio, TV, and mobile messaging reach diverse audiences effectively.
  • Integrated healthcare: Counseling during clinic visits and postpartum offers opportune moments.
  • School education: Age-appropriate curriculum fosters early awareness.
  • Addressing myths: Clear communication helps dispel misinformation.

You’re absolutely right @Soumya. Population growth puts a lot of pressure on resources and healthcare. Educating people about family planning is key and healthcare professionals can play a huge role in this. Some ways to do this could be through community outreach, offering free counseling and making resources like contraceptives more accessible.
Also simple, clear information about the benefits of family planning both for health and financial stability can really make a difference.

Most points are well covered! I’ll like to add some : using folk theatre and street plays for awareness, integrating family planning messages into religious or community gatherings, offering incentives for attending counselling sessions,

Raising awareness among the people regarding the cons of population increase - scarcity in basic utilities such as water, land , food and other resources might help in educating the people on the importance of family planning.

When I visited Canada, I saw huge spaces, less number of people, empty roads and good infrastructure. The prosperity is visible.

India population is 1.4 billion. Too much overcrowded. Poverty is visible and rampant. Governments are an obstacle in the development of people. Corruption and lack of transparency rule the roost. Results, we are a nation of great potential with misery all around.
Per capita income (PCI) is $2,000 per annum.

On the contrary, USA, approx 400 million people, per capita income is $63,000.

Canada is larger than, slightly larger than USA in area. Population is just 40 million. PCI 53 USD per annum.

New Zealand population is just 5 million.

Now look at densely populated like China and Japan.

Population is a boon, but if mismanaged, it becomes a curse. India is not populated, it is overpopulated. And yet, no one talks about population control.

A contrarian view is that, more the number of people more will be taxes earned by govt. This argument makes sense. But then corruption and lack of transparency kills everything.

I’ve seen this drastic change when I travelled back from Georgia to india after graduation… Now when we are fighting for limited number of seats for internships or jobs or masters etc. this overpopulation is a mess and because of this unemployment is increasing and market is crashing … Govt needs to do something soon

In my opinion, school and college health education programs combined with the use of mass media and social media would be a game changer in family planning as it would spread more awareness in the youth. Increasing the community health camps and setting up family planning departments in hospitals would also provide more information and answer questions that people have.

  • Educating them about sustainable development can be helpful.

  • Every educated sane person knows the importance of a sustainable family planning and the risk of increasing population. So, if everyone gets education first then this problem will automatically disappear.

In India the population growth is somewhat reduced.

Educating them can make India a powerfull country.

As compared to last decade the growth rate of India has dropped down from 1.19 to 0.89. This shows that the people are being aware about the family planning. But this still needs to be controlled by conducting various camps and social media because the population is still increasing with decreased growth rate.

The population increase does not always mean the births are increased it also means the death rate is low. Because of better healthcare a person’s lifespan is increased in India from the last decades

Excessive growth or decline of a population can both be indicators of either deterioration or growth. Whether or not that is the case largely depends upon the societal conditions and resource allocations specific to a given time frame. In India, a growing population could mean trouble while in Japan or South Korea it could mean imrovement. It is truly context dependent. Thus, the help we can provide for family planning according to available resources depends on social expectations and ambitions.
