No Pay, No Care? Intern Doctors Speak Out

For 3+ months, medical interns at BJ Medical College & Sassoon Hospital in Pune have been working without a stipend -despite a government promise of increased pay.

:black_small_square:︎They’re expected to serve patients, handle emergencies, and give their best… but haven’t received a single rupee since April 5.

:black_small_square:︎The interns are now on an indefinite strike, demanding urgent redressal.
Primary care services may be affected if this continues.

:black_small_square:︎ “How can we give our best to patients if we can’t even afford basic needs?”

It’s a very big task. I’m not sure what to suggest.
For me, salary is a big motivator. If I were in that situation, I would definitely quit this intern and join one where I’m getting paid and can fulfil my basic need.

I completely agree with you everyone has to struggle for this and without stipend how the doctors would be able to provide better treatment to the patients. This must be noticed by the government and must take action on this.

I completely agree, without doctors having basic needs it becomes really difficult to just keep working. Only if intern doctors are given stipend and their mental as well as physical burden reduces they can work

Interns do deserve a minimum pay.

As working for hours without any benefit is very difficult thing to do. They need to be paid as well.
