National Vaccination Day (March 16): How India Vaccinates Millions of Children Every Year

India’s Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) is one of the largest vaccination programs in the world, targeting around 26 million newborns and 34 million pregnant women each year. Vaccines are delivered through more than 13 million immunization sessions annually across health centers, anganwadi centres, and community outreach sites.

The program protects children against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases, supported by a nationwide cold chain network with nearly 29,000 cold chain points and the efforts of over 2.5 million frontline health workers, including ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers.

Initiatives such as Mission Indradhanush and digital platforms like U-WIN are helping improve vaccine coverage and ensure that children who miss routine immunization are identified and vaccinated.

Very informative post, our healthcare sector is doing well in provision of vaccinations but surely more reach and awareness among common people are required. But the government schemes and working force using multipurpose healthcare workers for awareness and data collection as well as regular vaccination champs and home visits is going on very well. But there is always a scope for improvement.
