Movement as Medicine: A Natural Path to Better Health

Movement is a powerful and natural form of medicine that supports both physical and mental health. Regular physical activity helps improve cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart, improving blood circulation, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension.

Movement also plays a vital role in maintaining musculoskeletal health. It strengthens muscles, improves joint flexibility, enhances balance, and reduces the risk of injuries and age-related conditions like osteoporosis and arthritis.

Beyond physical benefits, movement has a strong positive impact on mental well-being. Exercise helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression by releasing endorphins, often called “feel-good hormones.” It also improves sleep quality, boosts self-esteem, and enhances cognitive function, including memory and concentration.

Additionally, movement supports immune function and increases overall energy levels, helping individuals feel more active and productive throughout the day. Simple activities such as walking, stretching, yoga, or cycling can act as effective medicine when practiced regularly.

In conclusion, using movement as medicine is a simple, cost-effective, and accessible way to promote overall health, prevent disease, and improve quality of life.

As you have rightly mentioned I have also noticed a lower cortisol level during movement which helps in bringing down the intensity of stress. Need to include movement also as part of therapy for patients.

Movements in any way like walking , running , gymastics , dancing etc helps in bringing up the levels of good hormones like beta-endorphin etc which gradually helps in boosting good mood of an individual.
