Montec-LC is a combination tablet containing montelukast and levocetirizine. Levocetirizine is an antihistamine, while montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist.
Montelukast is primarily used for conditions such as asthma and allergic rhinitis, these medicines are sometimes used for prolonged periods depending on the patient’s condition.
Nowadays, for regular cough and cold, I have noticed some people use Montec-LC for a few days. What concern me more is now a days some pediatricians are also prescribing to children (even under 1 year of age) for regular cough or cold without understanding whether the symptoms are actually related to allergies.
Montelukast also carries an important warning about possible side effects in children and teenagers like behavioral changes, aggression, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances.
I feel that now -a -days well educated people are also not being serious about health. Even if the doctor has not suggested it, that doesn’t matter they are buying it over the counter without a prescription. Being well educated does not always mean that we are well informed about medicines. At least we should cross check and should have patience until the person recovers.
