We often blame street food for rising obesity—but are we overlooking what’s happening in our own kitchens?
It is a known fact that street food is recognized as unhealthy due to excessive oil, refined flour, sugar, and poor hygiene. Regular consumption is strongly linked to diseases like Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension and other serious illnesses.
But… Is Home-Cooked Food Always Healthy?
Home-cooked meals are often considered safe and healthy, but this is not always true.
The healthiness of home food depends on how it is prepared.
Excessive use of oil, salt, and spices in home cooking can also lead to serious health problems. High salt intake increases the risk of hypertension, while too much oil contributes to obesity and lipid disorders.
Over time, even home food can contribute to metabolic diseases if not prepared mindfully.
In my personal experience, I have observed that many people assume that all home-cooked food is healthy.
In several households, deep-fried and oil-rich foods are consumed regularly, yet they are labeled as “healthy” simply because they are prepared at home. This misconception can be harmful, as frequent intake of such foods can still lead to conditions like Obesity and Hypertension.
So what makes Any food healthy? And how does it affect obesity?
Health is not determined by whether food is made at home or outside it depends on dietary habits and lifestyle choices. Like,
Healthy Cooking with minimal oil and less salt.
Including fiber-rich foods like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
Using traditional grains like millets for better nutrition.
Avoiding frequent deep frying, even at home.
Such habits help in preventing obesity and maintaining overall metabolic health.
I want to know your thoughts regarding something,
If unhealthy practices can make home-cooked food harmful, can healthy practices also make street food beneficial? Is it possible? If so, how do you think it is gonna affect our lifestyle & health?
