The use of AI has undeniably become a part of everyone’s lives today, let alone students of medicine or biosciences. From learning facts to finance tips, learning recipes, creating art and now, answering test questions, AI has reached and advanced in all directions. But is the use of AI healthy for students in health care sector?
The misuse:
Using AI to answer test questions, complete assignments or using AI and search engines as the only source of learning has become a trend. Surely, there is no harm in increasing your knowledge using various available sources, but the source must be credible. Most of the AI interfaces or search engines provide a collection of data available online, this data may not necessarily be valid or reliable. There is another reported fear of provision of false data or misinformation by AI. If the foundational knowledge of health sciences is formed on the basis of unreliable information, how will it build better professionals?
Making good use of AI:
AI use is obviously inevitable. But the correct use of AI is what makes the difference.
- Use AI to create tests and flashcards to assist in studying.
- Use the search engines and AI to find credible research papers for studying.
- Create study schedules using AI.
- While using AI to add to your knowledge, let the data go through your eyes first, judge the credibility. Do not merely copy and paste.
So, to sum it up, just like misuse of a medicine can also be poisonous, AI is no different. Let AI make our lives easy, but don’t let it make us lazy!
