Intraoral Scanners

Intraoral scanners (IOS) are devices for capturing direct optical impressions in dentistry. It is a device often shaped like a wand or large pen, that captures 3D digital dental impressions. It uses this data to produce a highly detailed image of the patient’s mouth. This image can be viewed on a computer screen or can be used to fabricate dental restorations. When a dentist uses an intraoral scanner, they scan the patient’s oral cavity capturing detailed information about the teeth, gums, and surrounding structures. The scanner creates a digital model of the patient’s mouth which can then be used for various purposes such as designing crowns, bridges, aligners, or other dental prosthetics.
