Insecurity Over Appearance in Medicine

Insecurity Over Appearance in Medicine Why Don’t We Discuss It?

“I know I’m intelligent. but sometimes I don’t feel pretty enough to be here.”

In medicine, where knowledge reigns supreme, why must we still hurt when we are made to feel invisible, ugly, or inadequate?

Whatever it is, whether acne, body shape, color of skin, scars, or just not being in the "ideal look"it bruises our confidence more than we acknowledge.
Some attempt to conceal behind lab coats.
Some make light of it before others can.
Some remain silent, slipping away from their own self-esteem.
But why should our appearance determine the way we feel about ourselves particularly in a profession where our heads, hearts, and hands literally save lives?

Ever felt self-conscious about your appearance as a student?
How have you coped with it or are you still figuring it out?
Let’s shatter the silence.
Because beauty is not a standard. It’s a story and yours matters. :white_heart:

I personally never felt low because of my appearance, and I truly believe the best way to overcome such insecurities is self-love. Once you start accepting and loving yourself the way you are, nothing and no one can shake your confidence.
Everyone is unique in their own way — and our worth isn’t based on looks, especially in a profession where care, skill, and kindness matter the most.
So wear your smile, hold your head high, and always remember: You are enough.
