India’s first-ever Intrahepatic Ectopic Pregnancy reported in Uttar Pradesh

Bulandshahr | July 29, 2025

In an extremely rare and shocking medical case, a 30-year-old woman has been diagnosed with a 12-week live ectopic pregnancy growing inside her liver — a condition called intrahepatic ectopic pregnancy. This form of ectopic pregnancy is so rare that less than 10 cases have been reported worldwide.

The woman had been suffering from ongoing stomach pain and vomiting. While initial scans didn’t reveal much, a detailed MRI scan done in Meerut showed a gestational sac with a heartbeat inside the right lobe of her liver. Interestingly, her uterus showed no sign of pregnancy.

Why is this situation so dangerous?
The liver is a very blood-rich organ, and if it ruptures due to the pregnancy, it could lead to life-threatening internal bleeding. Because of the seriousness of the case, a team of doctors from different specialties has come together to handle this complex situation.

This rare case emphasizes how important early diagnosis and clinical awareness are. It also reminds us just how unpredictable and complex human reproduction can be — sometimes taking place in the most unexpected locations within the body.

What starts as a medical mystery can quickly turn into a medical emergency in such rare cases.

This case is truly shocking,
It really shows how unpredictable our body can be — a pregnancy developing in the liver is something no one would imagine. But this also reminds us how important early diagnosis is. Sometimes what looks like a simple stomach pain might be something more serious. These types of rare cases also highlight the need for clinical awareness and proper imaging like MRI when basic scans don’t show answers.Hats off to the medical team handling such a high-risk condition!
Such cases also teach us how strong and fragile life can be at the same time.

A pregnancy developing in the liver is extremely rare and very dangerous due to the risk of massive internal bleeding. The liver is full of blood vessels, so any rupture could be life-threatening.
