Uterine inversion is a rare condition where the uterus turns inside out. When this happens without childbirth, it’s called chronic non-puerperal uterine inversion and it’s extremely uncommon, especially in women who have never been pregnant.
The Hidden Challenge
Many patients feel a mass coming out of the vagina, pelvic heaviness, or irregular bleeding. Because these symptoms resemble uterine prolapse or tumors, diagnosis can be confusing.
Diagnosis
An MRI scan helps confirm the condition. The key finding is the “fallen fundus sign,” showing that the top of the uterus has inverted inward.
A Real case:
A 22-year-old woman had the same symptoms for seven years. MRI confirmed uterine inversion. She underwent surgery, and her uterus was restored to normal position. Recovery was smooth, and she was advised to avoid pregnancy for a year.
• This rare condition needs high clinical suspicion.
• MRI is the best tool for diagnosis.
• Surgery can completely correct it if managed properly.
