How chronic stress affects Hormones and Health

Chronic stress can disturb hormones and overall health as it activates ‘fight and flight’system . Some hormones which comminly gets disturbed due to stress:

  • Cortisol - Itself known as Stress Hormone , it increases which leads to fatigue , belly fat gain , poor sleep and low immunity.
  • Melatonin( Sleep Hormone) - Stress leads to disturbed or poor sleep which leads to low concentration and memory , tiredness and brain fog.
  • Seritonin and Dopamine (Mood Hormones)- It decreases leading to anxiety , lack of motivation and exhaustion.
  • Thyroid Hormone - It may gets affected in case of chronic stress and leads to various metabolic changes like weight changes , hairfall , change in apetite etc.
  • Reproductive Hormones (Mostly in females)-Stress can delay or disturb menstrual cycle , make women prone to acne and dull skin ,mood swings and hairfall.

So , Control your stress in early stages and try to be joyful and enthusiastic .In severe cases seek help , counsellings so that your mental health does not harm physical health too.
