Stress is often characterized as “through mentally,” but the truth is that the body keeps track. When we are stressed, the body produces hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, which are beneficial in moderate doses but harmful when stress is continuous.
The bodily consequences are numerous: headaches, muscle strain, digestive problems, and even skin breakouts. Stress can also elevate blood pressure, damage the immune system, and exacerbate illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Many people are astonished to hear that frequent stomachaches or bodily pains could be the result of stress manifesting itself physically.
Stress management involves more than just meditation or relaxation; it also includes developing daily routines such as regular exercise, proper food, adequate sleep, and even simple breathing breaks. By treating stress as a mental and physical health concern, we can prevent it from silently harming the body.
