Psoriasis is due to dysregulation of the immune system resulting in chronic inflammation of the skin, which causes excessive proliferation of keratinocytes, it is the main cell type found in the epidermis that is the outermost layer of skin, scaling of connective tissues, and reddening of skin.
Curcumin is an active compound present in the turmeric inhibits NF-B signaling which decreases inflammation within the skin. Aloe vera and chamomile both have calming properties that can help alleviate redness and eliminate plaque build-up on the skin; that is, both of these could be described as providing soothing qualities. The Scientific studies show that both aloe vera and chamomile have measurable results in helping to reduce plaque accumulation.
Vitamin D and E play major role in regulating skin cell proliferation and maintaining a balance of immune activity. There are significant variations in outcomes, which may relate to the product about how it was manufactured, the dose taken, and individual variances in patient response.
Herbs can alleviate symptoms of psoriasis; however, they will not correct the underlying pathology. Health care professionals believe that herbal remedies should be used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment, and not as a substitute for conventional medical treatment.
