Jewelry has traditionally represented culture, wealth, and individuality. But, beyond aesthetics, gold and silver have long been connected with health and healing and, strangely, modern research lends some validity to these ancient beliefs.
- Gold is used in piercings because it is non-reactive and safe to put on the skin. Because of their anti-inflammatory properties, medical scientists have investigated gold compounds for the treatment of illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis. Traditionally, gold is thought to boost circulation and vitality.
- Silver’s antibacterial qualities make it effective against germs and fungi. It is utilized for wound dressings, surgical tools, and even water purification. In traditional methods, silver is thought to have a cooling and calming impact on the body.
Of course, not all traditional claims are supported by substantial clinical data, yet the mix of safety, science, and symbolism explains why certain metals have been accepted for ages.
So, when we wear gold or silver ornaments, it may not just be about looking nice, but also about feeling well.
