The first day I donned on my white coat was during my anatomy practical ,
We were basically heading for the cadaveric dissection first day

But first we were shown the dried cadaver and taught surface before heading straight for dissection

What I learned was , I can stand the formalin smell !:joy:

The first day lesson when I stepped in to clinical pharmacist role that the theoretical knowledge is different from real clinical settings.

Wearing the white coat for the first time as a professional felt surreal, like stepping into a new identity. On my first day, I realized that no textbook can teach that kind of responsibility, which hospital teaches us.

My first day wearing the white coat was back in first year of college. But the first day wearing it for work gave me chills, I felt like a real doctor. I had cold feet, stood confused as the doctor gave me too many instructions at once. But I still remember him telling a patient, “She just joined 5 minutes ago.” That is when it hit me, I had really started working. I cannot even point to just one moment from that day. So much happened, meeting co-doctors, getting to know them, asking for help… It was overwhelming, but unforgettable.

My first day in clinical postings as a Pharm D student felt surreal. I wasn’t just observing anymore. I had a role, however small. The moment I reviewed my first prescription under supervision, I realized how real and delicate this work is. It taught me that beyond knowledge, empathy and presence matter just as much.

I haven’t had my first day in the medical field yet, but I’m truly looking forward to it. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m excited to step into a space where every task has purpose and every moment teaches something new. Can’t wait to experience that sense of responsibility, growth, and the chance to be part of someone’s healing journey.

My first day in the medical field was a mix of pride and nervousness. Wearing the white coat felt like carrying both honor and responsibility. The most unforgettable moment was interacting with my first patient—it taught me that empathy and listening are just as important as medical knowledge. No textbook could ever teach the depth of connection and trust a patient places in you.

Starting your healthcare journey is both thrilling and nerve-wracking. On day one, it’s less about acing everything and more about showing up with curiosity and compassion. Little gestures like offering to assist a team member, listening attentively to a patient, or staying calm under pressure can make a big difference.

Those early days teach more than textbooks ever could. What’s the single shift in mindset that helped you get through your first clinical day?

Not experienced this but this post beautifully captures how a career in healthcare is about so much more than what you learn in a textbook.

This post really connects with the emotions of starting a medical career. The first day is always full of mixed feelings—nervousness, excitement, and pride. Wearing the white coat makes you realize that the responsibility is real and people trust you with their lives. No textbook can prepare you fully for that moment. The biggest lesson is that confidence grows with experience, and every patient teaches something new. That day becomes a memory you never forget in your journey as a healthcare professional.

How to make conversation with patient and how to make patient comfortable with us.
Thats the thing I learned on my first day.
And clinical and theory both are very different.
