Fits, convulsions and seizures - are these terms same ?? Or there are any differences…

Seizure refers to abnormal electrical brain activity.

Convulsion is a type of seizure with involuntary muscle contractions.

Fit is a colloquial term for seizure or convulsion.
Not all seizures are convulsive. Convulsions have physical manifestations, while seizures can be subtle or overt.

Convulsions: Sudden, involuntary muscle contractions and jerking movements, often seen in some types of seizures.
Seizures: Medical condition caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain; may present with or without convulsions.

Yes, they do are the different terms with minor differences, yet confusing as well.

Many of the professionals have already replied the differences here.

If I talk about the differences in easy and layman terms then:-

• Seizures - It refers to the abnormal electrical signals in the brain. It can either lead to convulsions or may not.

• Convulsions - These are the abnormal involuntary jerky movements of the body.

• Fits - it is the normal non medical or layman term used for seizures or convulsions.

A seizure is the overall event of abnormal brain activity. A convulsion is a type of seizure involving uncontrolled muscle jerking. “Fit” is an older, less precise term for either.
