Cardiac arrest and heart attacks - these both terms are different from each other yet many people get confused between them and also use these terms interchangeably - which should not to be done.
So as a Healthcare professional, how will you explain the difference between both of this terms to the general population.
Heart attack is when the blood flow to the heart is stopped so the heart keeps beating even when the muscles are damaged. Its symptoms are chest pain and difficulty in breathing Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops beating so there is no blood flow to the brain and heart. Its symptoms are unconsciousness and no pulse. The patient would need CPR for this.
You’re right @Harshita_Suthar people often confuse cardiac arrest and heart attacks, but they’re actually very different.
A heart attack happens when blood flow to part of the heart is blocked causing damage to the heart muscle. The person may feel chest pain or discomfort and may need urgent treatment to restore blood flow.
Cardiac arrest, on the other hand is when the heart suddenly stops beating often due to an electrical problem. It can happen without warning and it requires immediate CPR and defibrillation to save the person’s life.
To keep it simple: a heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest but they are not the same thing.
