First aid - home remedies

First aid is given to a person who is injured or sick before professional medical emergency arrives. It is always essential to prevent worsening the condition and to keep the person stable.
There should always be a first aid box at every home. It should have cotton, gauze, adhesives, tools like scissors and tweezers. Medicines used for basic illness like painkillers, burn gel, antacids, etc. should also be there. Also, ensure these medicines are not out of their expiry date.
We should keep first aid box at schools, buses, swimming pools etc. Recently a lady was injured while climbing down the rungs of a ladder of a swimming pool. When the first aid box was open, all the medicines have crossed expiry date. So couldn’t be given first aid, which led to a prolonged bleeding before being taken to hospital.
There are few simple natural first aid which can be given for minor injuries at home. This includes:

  1. sprinkle sugar on a small bleeding wound, which can reduce bleeding considerably.
  2. We can smear coconut oil on mild abrasion which help in healing.
  3. We can apply ghee when we get a small burn from kitchen appliances.
  4. Make sure to keep an ice packet in fridge, which can be used for burn and bleeding injuries and to reduce swelling
  5. In case of insect bites, we can apply honey and turmeric.
Better cure can be had with a proper first aid.
