This is my story when I was in the 11th grade. Ironically, both of my parents love Mathematics but I dreaded that subject since my childhood. A senior teacher came in to teach us and all my hatred vanished off in an hour. How did she pull it off?
She treated every student the same, she was not biased towards anyone and she taught in such a way that student of every calibre could understand a topic. It definitely wasn’t anything short of magic. Since then, I looked forward to her classes and even without me recognizing, I fell in love with Math and was solving problems non- stop for a whole night. My parents couldn’t believe what they tried for 16 years was easily achieved by a teacher all of a sudden.
I realized the importance of a good teacher in the life of a student. Bagging good marks would be at the bottom of the list; change of perspective, ease of learning, confidence, building curiosity in a new topic, isn’t as easy as it sounds. But a good teacher always has a knack to crack a student open into a world of new possibilities.
Do you have any subject that you hated but you don’t anymore now?
I was told that I would fall in love with mathematics easily while studying 10th grade… but that moment never came to be
Happy for you though!
I would like to say for me, Asst. Prof. Sravanti ma’am for Zoology (2nd and 3rd yr BSc), there was something about her… the way she taught us like we were still kids in college… so much patience, described the topics so beautifully, drew each and every diagram possible to make us understand and always finished her syllabus… not everyone might have loved the approach… but there wasn’t a single topic I hadn’t learned in her classroom.
And a special mention to all the English teachers I have ever had… I haven’t had a single bad English teacher in my life… All of them were ICONIC… from Vijayalakshmi ma’am (2nd std) to Dr. Reena Dewan (2nd yr BSc)
Sanskrit was so scary a language for me in grade 7th. In 8th our teacher Shri Giri raj Sharma came in and transformed the didactics of Sanskrit. The language came a golden goose for many of us in our class, I would say.
So true, I always disliked physics, but when I finally found a teacher who explained it well, I couldn’t believe that I was actually capable of doing good in that subject.
