Down’s Syndrome is the most common trisomy compatible with life. Screening is done around 12-13 weeks POG - on USG - Nuchal translucency increases and nasal bone hypoplasia; on Triple test, Maternal Serum AFP and estriol decreases, Beta HCG increases, Inhibin also increases (included in quadruple test along with above mentioned blood tests).

Causes may be genetic factors and maternal age so Screening tests for trisomy during pregnancy helps to know whether the baby is down’s or no. This helps to take further decision by the parents to terminate pregnancy or go ahead anyways.

Talking about treatment after diagnosis, there is no such treatment for this, as no treatment can bring change in chromosomes. It is a lifelong condition. Down’s children can lead a healthy life with special programs and support.
