We all are well aware about the importance of brushing our teeth twice a day. Similarly, it is important to know the right technique of brushing your teeth. When the right technique is used your oral hygiene improves exponentially which in turn lead to good oral health
Do you know that everyone should not be doing the same brushing technique?
There are different brushing techniques for different condition, these are the 5 commonly used techniques:
1. Bass or Sulcular Technique
The Bass Technique of brushing involves using the toothbrush bristles to scrub off plaque from your gums before it can cause gum problems.
Place the brush at a 45-degree angulation at the junction of tooth and gum and then a vibratory circular motion is done.
2. Stillman Technique
The Stillman brushing technique is similar to the Bass technique. This technique uses short horizontal strokes back-and-forth on all surfaces of the teeth instead of circles.
3. Charter Technique
Recommended if you have spaces between your teeth, gum recession, exposed roots, or have had periodontal surgery. Charter is also useful if you have orthodontic appliances or fixed partial dentures.
4. Fones Technique
Compared to the Bass, Stillman, and Charter methods, the Fones approach is easier to understand and less complicated, which makes it perfect for kids or people with poor dexterity. The Fones method uses broad, circular strokes to clean the teeth, in contrast to other procedures that concentrate on certain angles and motions.
5. Modified Bass Technique
The Modified Bass technique combines elements of the Bass, Stillman, and Charter techniques. It focuses on effectively cleaning around the gumline, ensuring plaque and bacteria are thoroughly removed. Here along with vibratory motion a swiping method is also added. This is the most accepted method as it covers almost all areas of the oral cavity.
