Case 5: What the Duck?

21 year Rahul went on his weekend trip to a field. He enjoyed alot, he found ducks very cool and clicked pictures with them. A few days later he discovered discomfort and pain in his lung, he felt shortness of breath and was accompanied with fever and chills. His pain worsen while breathing or coughing.
He went to see the doctor, the doctor performed examination and asked him to perform a X-ray of his chest. He did so, he came back to the doctor with the XRay and was advised for a small invasive technique. After that, Rahul recovered and never approached ducks.

Based on symptoms a likely disease is psittacosis (also known as parrot fever), caused by the bacterium Chlamydia psittaci.
It’s a zoonotic infection that can be contracted from birds, especially ducks, parrots, and pigeons.

Rahul’s case sounds like a classic presentation of psittacosis, also known as “parrot fever”—a rare but important zoonotic disease caused by Chlamydia psittaci, typically transmitted from birds like ducks, parrots, or pigeons.

Psittacosis but I would also like to rule out other conditions solely due to the fact that psittacosis is quite rare.

Great question. Is it some allergic reaction?

Considering Rahul’s symptoms and exposure to ducks, I think he might have developed Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis or Psittacosis. Both conditions are linked to bird exposure, and his symptoms like lung pain, shortness of breath, and fever fit the bill. The doctor’s decision to perform a small invasive technique suggests they’re trying to confirm the diagnosis and provide targeted treatment.
