Pigeon Droppings & Urine – A Lurking Health Threat ![]()
We notice pigeons daily on rooftops, balconies, and streets. However, what does everyone not know is that their feces and urine are not harmless.
Respiratory hazards Dry droppings become airborne particles that are inhaled, causing infections such as Histoplasmosis and Cryptococcosis.
Allergic reactions Prolonged exposure can cause pigeon-breeder’s lung (hypersensitivity pneumonitis).
Contamination – Their droppings can contaminate food, water supplies, and surfaces, contaminating bacteria and fungi.
Handling pigeon droppings is not a safe task if done without caution. Wearing gloves, a mask, and thoroughly disinfecting the area is a must.
