Most of us wear tight clothes at some point like jeans, belts, or gym-wear during long shifts. But did you know this simple habit can actually affect your body in many ways? Tight clothes, especially around the waist, can increase pressure in the belly region and this can lead to problems like acid reflux, bloating, and constipation. Some people may even feel numbness/tingling in the thighs because of the pressure on certain nerves and this is called “Meralgia paresthetica”.
In one research study, it was found that, people who wore tight waistbands for long hours felt more bloated after meals, but most never realized that their clothes were the reason. Another research study has shown that compressive clothing can create more acid reflux and can even restrict diaphragmatic movement, slightly affecting breathing patterns. Long-term compression has also been linked to reduced intestinal motility in some cases.
