Can menstrual cycle affect sleep cycle?

For a woman, her menstrual cycle affects almost all the physiological, social, emotional, psychological factors. But does it also affect the sleep cycle?

In a study to check whether the menstrual cycle has an effect on sleep, a positive association was found.

Women in the early menopausal phase were studied. It was found that there were sleep disturbances especially in the luteal phase of the cycle i.e there were more awakenings in the luteal phase of the cycle.
