Healthy gums don’t beg for attention but diseased gums demand it.
Recently I assisted in the management of an elderly patient with chronic generalized gingivitis and a localised periodontal abscess w.r.t 16, who presented with poor oral hygiene and severe pain. His pocket depth was 10mm.
An incision & drainage was performed to relieve infection, followed by periodontal therapy and later flap surgery for pocket elimination and healing.
This case was a reminder that gum disease starts silently but progresses aggressively when neglected.
Yes, swollen and bleeding gums are early signs that can be cure by treatment. If we ignore at this stage it leads to severe periodontal condition and teeth mobilization.
