As a biotechnology student and a beginner in research, how do I get started with writing abstracts or review articles? Also, are there any good platforms or journals where students can publish their work?
Professors help is needed
You can try co-authoring with a mentor or joining journal clubs. As a biotechnology student starting out, begin by reading review articles in your area of interest to understand structure and tone. For abstracts, practice summarizing research papers in your own words—this builds clarity and confidence. Help of a professor plays a key role too.

That’s really helpful advice, thank you @Sriprada
For abstract writing, understanding the whole topic is important and an abstract only contains the important concept in a precised manner. It mostly starts with what the topic is all about and its significance, recent literature findings and gaps and in your article what you will be addressing and how that information helps in filling the existing research gap. Review article writing involves first of all collecting all the authentic and peer-reviewed articles published in the area, what’s reported in them and how far the concept has emerged and what new still can be thought of and how various gaps can be addressed; all these can be included in a novel way citing those articles. The more in demand your topic is, you can think of a high impact factor journal, but for that the writing style should match the standard of the journal too. Based upon your own article, you can find a similar standard journal and send the article there for the publication. Else, if you are targeting a specific journal, you can check few similar article as yours that are already published in that journal and get an idea how to craft yours.
You’ve explained it really well @dripsitapujari. A clear understanding of the topic is indeed the foundation for writing a strong abstract and review article. Summarizing only the key points in a concise manner helps the reader grasp the core message quickly.
Thankyou so much!
