Are you able to create a bond with your patient as a doctor?

Imagine you are going on a trip with your friends to “heaven on earth”—Kashmir—to celebrate New Year. What if destiny throws a hurdle in the form of tooth pain?

This is what Mr. Pritam Patil from Mumbai had to tackle in Srinagar, Kashmir. As the tooth pain became severe and unbearable even after taking medication, Pritam had to visit a dentist referred by a local friend.

He found his angel in the dentist, who treated him with professionalism and warmth. After the treatment, Pritam celebrated the New Year and went back to Mumbai.

As there were more dental problems to be addressed, he took his cousin along with him for treatment to the same dentist. Pritam loved the warmth of the dentist and all the local Kashmiri people so much that he traveled all the way from Mumbai to Srinagar.

Mumbai is the biggest city with so many eminent dentists, but Pritam liked the Srinagar dentist for his work, warmth, and professionalism. This is what a doctor achieves through his approach to patients.

I visited my gynaecologist last year and back then I was very stressed because of my pcos and acne. My gynac gave about half an hour to councel me when he had so many patients waiting just because he noticed an almost depressed face and tired eyes. His positive energy lifted off quite a lot of burden off me. I thought what has happened to me and my face could never be reversed but he gave me that positive insight that it can get better and within a year or so I did get better with efforts. So yes, that compassion and warmth can itself contribute to the process of recovery in a patient.

Yes, that’s true. Sometimes it’s the comfort and ease you feel around someone that naturally builds a connection. Even I prefer traveling all the way to my native place for my or my kids’ dental care, unless it’s an emergency.
