Are we underestimating antimicrobial resistance, and can stricter prescribing rules alone solve it, or does real change need to come from both doctors and patients?

Certainly we are underestimating antibiotic resistance. Tighter prescribing guidelines are critical and will have an impact but these alone will not solve the problem. Change can only be delivered if both doctors and patients change - rational prescribing, no self medication, completing antibiotic courses all need to happen - they are all as important as each other.

With antibiotic resistance becoming a significant future health hazard, the implementation of appropriate preventive strategies is crucial.

You’re absolutely right. Antibiotic resistance is a silent crisis we’re underestimating. Guidelines can help, but unless doctors prescribe responsibly and patients stop self-medicating or skipping doses, the cycle won’t break

Yes, we did and we do even now… The impact is gradual and less visible with a long term consequences. We have shared responsibility both the patient end and the prescriber in tackling this
