Strict Antibiotic Regulations Aren’t a Choice Anymore — They’re a Necessity.

Yesterday, a male patient came in with a severe infection. His family mentioned that he had never been admitted to a hospital before, but whenever he developed an infection, he used to take antibiotics on his own without proper medical advice.

And guess what? In his case, many antibiotics had already become resistant.

That moment made me realize how urgently we need stricter rules and regulations for the sale of antibiotics — especially banning over-the-counter sales without a valid prescription.

What’s your POV on this growing issue of antibiotic resistance?

True that. It must be ensured that antibiotics are not sold Over-The-Counter. Even though many are aware of this antibiotic resistance, they still go to the pharmacy to get medicines, wothout any valid prescriptions.

Yes.. exactly there must be strict rules for this

This is a severe concern. There is indeed need for implementation of stricter rules for sale and purchase. A prescription should be made mandatory. We are already dealing with antibiotic resistance at a massive front. Such cases indicate an alarming issue and needs to be solved at the earliest.Else,it will be difficult in the future to combat even a minimal infection.

Antibiotic resistance is becoming a serious problem because many people misuse antibiotics for viral infections, stop the course midway, or self-medicate without guidance. If this continues, even common infections may become harder to treat in the future. Awareness, responsible use, and proper medical guidance are the only ways to slow it down

Exactly! But lack of awareness is still there..

Antibiotic resistances especially in India, is a common problem. Even for the mildest viral fever, seasonal flues patient are talking antibiotics. They need to understand that viral infections cannot be treated by Antibiotics. Patient education thus becomes very necessary otherwise the next big pandemic which we are going to see will be a result of antibiotic resistance!!!

This is a serious and growing concern. Antibiotic resistance is not just an individual problem—it’s a public health crisis. Easy over-the-counter access and self-medication are major contributors. While stricter regulations are necessary, awareness is equally important so people understand the risks of misuse. Rational use of antibiotics is the only way forward to preserve their effectiveness for the future.
