Once during hospital rounds, a doctor said, “Pharmacists just give medicines, right?” It stung because we study so much more than that! Sometimes I feel pharmacy graduates don’t get the same respect as doctors or nurses. Have you ever felt pharmacy is undervalued? How can we change this perception? Share your views so we can uplift our profession together!
yes , When someone says pharmacist give medicine prescribed by doctors . Both the doctor and pharmacist are well educated in their profession. Doctors know how to treat patients but pharmacists know what to give to patients. Doctors prescribed medicine to patients were pharmacist directly give medicine to patients without prescription but it is wrong both professions have their own understandings . Always patients should take medication through doctors. Pharmacist are played very important role between doctors and patients. Respects Pharmacist
yes this needs to be changed everyone says pharmacist?? oh you are studying pharmacy means working in medical store that’s it right?? no value for your profession you just gives medicines. these are the most common comments we faced in our daily lifes as a pharmacist but here they are undervaluing us because most of the people dont know what the exact education is the pharmacy and no one knows that if we dont formulate the medications then there will be no life… We pharmacist are not just medication dispensers we also know how to prepare a drug. and all these things should be known before undervaluing us.
If pharmacy is underrated what do you think about other allied health courses they don’t give preference to them even if they does all work for the procedures.Every profession has its own value the person who enrolled in it know the value of it and whatever people say you need to have interest in it and get succeed
That’s true, Many people still don’t fully understand what pharmacists actually do. It’s not just giving medicines there’s a lot of knowledge behind it. From checking doses to making sure medicines are safe together, pharmacists play a key role. To change this mindset, we need to speak up more about our work and let people know how important it really is.
Pharmacy graduates are often undervalued compared to other health professionals due to limited public awareness of their full role, lower pay in many regions, and an oversupply of graduates in some countries. While traditionally seen as medication dispensers, pharmacists increasingly play vital roles in clinical care, chronic disease management, and public health. In countries like the UK, Canada, and parts of the U.S., their recognition is growing as they gain prescribing rights and expanded responsibilities, but in many regions, their contributions remain underappreciated.
True , Pharmacist should get equal respect as a doctor gets for performing his duty
Yes, as a Pharma graduate myself, sadly I have to agree that pharma graduates are undervalued compared to other health professionals mainly in our country. It is because majority thinks that pharma graduates are only meant to sell medicines in pharmacy. People are unaware that Pharma graduates are the ones who manufacture medicines, plays a key role in clinical research, drug development and discovery, regulatory authorities, etc. And the sad truth is, this negligence is mostly seen in our country. Whereas, in abroad, pharmacy is a profession of high value and respect. It is also reflected in their job market and remuneration.
I think by educating the younger generation about the scope and roles of the Pharmacy field would really help in changing this societal perception, if not now, but atleast in the coming future.
as my experience : its a big yesss , they treat us like a joke
I believe so, pharmacy graduates are greatly restricted to their own field and not given as much respect now with the growing trends and exposure of other branches in medical sciences.
No graduate is undervalued, every field had their special skills when compared with others; So there are such things like undervalued.Even the pharmacists has their special skills and experience in their field.
No doubt. This is one of the bitter truths of our country. Our profession is not respected as much it should be. Foreign countries understand well what our profession actually means. Its really sad. I feel, Doctors play a major role here.
The audacity of that while prescribing pharmaceutical medication
Pharmacy graduates play a vital role in patient safety , drug development and healthcare support .
Despite their expertise in medicine they are often didn’t get recognition as doctors and other medical professionals
hope, our society understand too quickly .
Unfortunately, yes. But they should be respected more because their work is crucial in ensuring the safety, efficacy, and accessibility of medicines.
Ofcoursee yes , pharmacists are undervalued.
Being from a pharma background I’m facing that currently. We don spend lots of money, time and put lots of efforts to get the degree so that we would get respect once its done. But its not as we expected, we are not valued, respected or we dont even have enough job opportunities.
I strongly beleive every profession has to be respected and valued as they deserves.
Yes, unfortunately the pharmacist are no respected as doctors and other medical staff. But the pharmacist are more than just medicine dispensers. The pharmacist have the knowledge about disease, medicine, mode of action, designing of medicine, preparation of medicine. How medicine treat the disease. They are the responsible for the quality, safety of the medicine.
Yes, It hurts when people think pharmacists just hand out medicines.
We study so much about how drugs work, how they affect the body, and how to use them safely.
I think people need to see us more in action, like during patient care, so they understand our role better and give us the respect we deserve.
Sure, it is because pharma graduates have little exposure in the society and their day-to-day contact with the patient is minimal. They are the lesser-known but vital participants where they work behind-the-scenes in developing drugs and drug safety. Nevertheless, there is an increased sense of awareness since their role in healthcare is increasingly being revealed.
