Are Multivitamins Being Prescribed Out of Need or Habit ?

I have noticed that multivitamins are included in many prescriptions , sometimes when there is no clear evidence of a deficiency . In several cases patients came with several complaints like fatigue or weakness, and along with other medications , a multivitamin is almost routinely added .

I have also heard patients say that they feel more satisfied when they receive supplements , as it gives them a sense that their body is being strengthened. At the same time , some patients continue taking these supplements for long periods without proper follow-up

This made me think are multivitamins always being prescribed based on actual clinical need, or have they become a habit in practice? While they are generally considered safe, unnecessary use may not truly address the root cause, especially when lifestyle factors like diet, sleep, and stress are playing a bigger role.

Do you think multivitamins are being overused in routine practice, or do they still play an essential role even without confirmed deficiencies?
