AI in Healthcare: How Fast Is This Happening?

When, in 2018, Open AI introduced GPT-1, did anyone imagine the technological explosion that would follow?

We can just look at the progression that occurred.

In 2019, OpenAI launched GPT-2, followed by GPT-3 in 2020. Then, microsoft introduced Microsoft Copilot, while ChatGPT was launched in 2022.

However, a tremendous shift occurred with the launch of Claude by Anthropic in 2023. This was followed by the release of multiple advanced chatbots across various platforms, including the Claude Code.

Things became intensely competitive with the arrival of DeepSeek and upgraded generation of GPT models, which pushed AI capabilities even further.

If we simply look at this trajectory, it becomes clear how groundbreaking the changes have been over the last few years.

How Has This Affected Healthcare?

In the earlier days, around 2018, the general belief was that AI would not significantly affect doctors’ roles.

However, this perception has currently shifted.

The world’s first AI-powered doctor clinic was established in Al-Ahsa, where the AI physician, Dr. Hua, conducts patient consultations. A licensed physician remotely reviews and signs off as the final step.

This offers a glimpse into the transformative potential AI could bring in healthcare, and what we have and are about to witness.

Now after knowing all this, what is in this for us?

A Golden Opportunity like never before

Yes, when everyone is talking about most of the branches being saturated, this creates an easier opportunity to enter the market. You just have to train in AI to become AI literate.

This will eliminate majority of the compertition from the older generation and hence one can easily carve a career for himself.

Only competition will he his/her peers. Not an entire older generation doctors.

So AI is giving an opportunity, are you willing to act fast and master it?

It is a skill which if acquired would give a doctor unfair advantage over others. With time you have to adapt and add AI to one’s armoury. Those who don’t know working with AI would lag behind in future.

Implementation of AI in healthcare become a necessity soon. Doctors definitely will need to upgrade themselves with newer technology.

AI is definitely changing healthcare at an incredible pace, and being AI-literate will likely become an important skill for future healthcare professionals. That said, technology works best when combined with human expertise. While AI can improve efficiency and support decision-making, the human aspects of medicine—empathy, ethical reasoning, and patient interaction—will continue to play a vital role.
