10th May is Mother’s Day, and although the sacrifices our mothers make for us can never truly be repaid in one lifetime, today I find myself reflecting on just how deeply my mother has shaped me.
One of my happiest childhood memories is sitting on the kitchen shelf while my mother worked around me, listening to her talk about patients, daily challenges, and little victories from her day , while I very seriously updated her about the major crises in my own life, like not getting the best score in class or fighting with a friend over a pen. Back then, I didn’t understand most of her conversations; I only knew I loved being close to her and hearing her voice.
Years later, life came full circle. Today, we sit together discussing cases as we are in the same profession. The conversations are different now, but the comfort feels exactly the same. What once sounded like mysterious adult discussions has now become something we share, understand, and bond over together.
There’s something special about growing up watching your mother not just as a parent, but also as a professional you deeply admire.
This Mother’s Day, I feel grateful not only for my mother’s love and care, but also for the inspiration she unknowingly gave me while I was growing up. To all the mothers who quietly shape their children through everyday moments, thank you. ![]()
Today, give her a hug, make her day special, or call her if you live far away. And if you feel like it, share your favourite memories with her too ![]()
