I have always found meditation boring. I either sleep while meditating or thoughts keep on flooding up in my brain and at the end it all feels like a waste of time.
Meditation is not always sitting on a mat completely thoughtless. Cooking, painting, sketching or even tidying your room can be a form of meditation.
The problem is we rush everything nowadays. I’m sure everyone feels fresh after taking a warm, slow shower but who has time for that; office, school, college, work demands speed and we cut that time in these unproductive activities rushing them. Honestly, these activities can also turn into meditation if we don’t think about the task list for the day from the second we wake up.
Meditation for me is sketching, making a mandala or playing music.
From neuroscience perspective when we engage in drawing or playing music, or cooking, our prefrontal cortex and amygdala engage in a unique way. It creates a state similar to meditation.
I completely agree. If you sit in one position trying to meditate but your mind is still flooded with a hundred thoughts, then it doesn’t really feel like meditation. Instead, it’s better to find some other calming activity that actually gives your mind a break for a while.
This was so insightful . It just changed the way of meditation for me entirely . Meditation can be anything which help you in relaxing and bring you closer to oneself. Wonderful way to look at this.
Very true instead of just sitting on mat wasting time , following our hobby also refreshes our mind and thoughts flooded through meditation disappear and the activities can also be productive and refreshing part of our day
very well said. I’ve always found meditation a bit boring and it often makes me sleepy. i used to skip meditation sessions and end up doing randoms thing instead-- but this perspective makes it feel more approachable.
Yes Maam this is also called Mindfulness. Mindfulness is a state of present-moment awareness. Our entire attention is on the task and the present moment. Mindfulness can be a very useful tool for Stress Management and overthinking. We dont always need to meditate; using adult colouring books can also help you to be mindful. It is a great alternative to Meditation. If you get bored of one type of colouring , you can use books with different themes too.
I write down my thoughts or journal my day. It feels like taking all the unnecessary thoughts out on a paper and I feel something similar to meditation.
I completely agree that meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting silently with an empty mind. Activities like sketching, gardening, cooking, or even organizing a space can create a calming flow state. The key is being fully present in the moment. For me, reading or taking a quiet walk often feels more meditative than traditional meditation.
Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting silently. For me, activities like sketching, music, or cooking can be just as meditative because they help me stay present and calm.
