“Work less, live more — a dream for many. But could a 4-day work week actually improve health and productivity in India like it has in other countries?”
Better work-life balance → more rest, family time, hobbies
Reduced stress and burnout → mental health boost
Extra time for physical activity → healthier lifestyle
Cost saving → less travel, lower daily expenses
Environmental benefit → fewer commuting days = less pollution
Global Examples:
Iceland: Trial between 2015–2019 showed happier employees with same productivity
UK: 2022 trial in 61 companies — 92% kept the system because staff health improved
Japan: Microsoft Japan saw 40% rise in productivity with a 4-day week
Why India Might Benefit:
High stress levels in urban workers
Rising lifestyle diseases like diabetes and hypertension
Growing need for mental health breaks
“If other countries can work fewer days and still achieve more, why can’t India? Or is our work culture not ready for this leap?”
If one is working honestly during their work hours, then why not? Still, it feels like a dream—honestly speaking, our work culture isn’t ready for this leap yet. No overtime, holidays being actual holidays… and most importantly, moving to a 4-day work week. In many workplaces, even Saturdays are still working days.
Work has slowly become life itself, instead of being just a part of life. I’m not sure what more to say.
Yes , I think it will benfit India because employee will get proper rest and hence the productivity will increase and ultimately it will help the companies but I think it is still a dream in India to work for 4 days
Within our country, the economy is mostly connected with informal sectors (micro-business, construction and small-scale manufacturing, agriculture etc) and they contribute towards roughly half of India’s GDP, which indicates their significant contribution to the country’s economy more than the formal sectors. Most of the work in informal sectors (even in formal sectors these days) function through their demands and that’s the reason it gets difficult to be performed within a specific time schedule. Moreover, the labor laws of our country are rigid. Also, we have many sectors here that require continuous availability of people and mostly our cultural or societal norms view long hours of work in the form of commitment and sincerity. If the work week is short for someone, people will doubt what one is doing in life and their work will be considered insignificant. If the implementation of 4 days work-week gets successful, definitely there will be a lot of benefits specifically around the mental health upliftment, higher life satisfaction, and less incidence of chronic lifestyle diseases. But for now, it looks like a long way to go for it.
A 4-day work week sounds exciting, promising better work-life balance and more personal time. But for India, the challenge lies in execution. Many industries rely on long hours, and reduced days may require longer shifts or higher efficiency. While it could boost mental health, creativity, and family time, it demands cultural change, better automation, and trust in employees.
4days work in in. Week sounds good it helps work life balance minimal travel expenses more time with family effective usage of time but the questions is is the work completed within 4days might be not possible by indians .it is best for the countries where smart work than the hard word
A 4-day work week sounds like a dream we all secretly wish for. Just having one extra day to rest, laugh with family, or do things we love could make such a big difference to our mental health. It’s heartbreaking to see so many people stressed, overworked, and missing out on life. If this change could make work less of a burden and life more enjoyable, it would feel like a small miracle.
I really hope someday our work culture values living, not just working.
In India people work more days and get small payment with lots of stress. This has to be changed. 4 days work and 3 days to live is a great concept, it jas to be implemented here.
Work in other countries does not have high-pressure environments like India. They also have better timings and working hours. A 4-day work week could really help us too, better work-life balance, less stress, and more focus on health
fair pay is equally important . If your working for more days and sacrificing everything for a job from mental health to family time we should be payed more .
A 4-day work week sounds exciting and promising, especially for enhancing work-life balance and reducing the stress and burnout. But I think our country’s work culture is not ready for this leap. Even a 5-day work week is not encouraged by many, and also majority of the employers prioritize the time spend on work rather than efficiency.
A 4-day work week could really help reduce stress and improve overall health in India, especially for busy urban workers. It’s inspiring to see examples from other countries maybe it’s time for India to rethink work culture and focus on productivity and well-being.
A 4-days work in a week is sounds great, but if the same work is squeezed into fewer days,it could just mean more stress. It’s all depend on how it’s managed.
A 4-day work week sounds like a great idea, especially for improving health and reducing stress. In India, many people face long hours, travel, and pressure—so having more rest days could help balance life better. It might also give time for fitness, hobbies, and mental peace. But changing work culture here won’t be easy. Still, if other countries saw good results, maybe it’s time we explore this too. Small steps can lead to big change.
Four day week sounds good, exciting and promising. It can helps us in reducing stress and screen time. And due to three day off brain can get more time for newer imagination and newer things which can help in increasing the productivity.
Companies make people overwork on the working days itself
You seriously think companies will accept 4 days ?
They don’t give the weekend holidays itself ,
A day more?
Results are good but the economy of those countries is great .
Unlike india
