Zombie Cells: How Cellular Senescence Affects Your Health

Cellular senescence, often referred to as “zombie cells,” describes a state where cells stop dividing but don’t die, accumulating in the body and contributing to age-related diseases.
‘Zombie cells’ stop dividing but don’t die—and they may accelerate aging and disease. Researchers are now trying to eliminate them with new drugs called senolytics.

What is your opinion on senolytics ? How well are they effective ?

Wow Thank you for sharing such an interesting fact. It’s amazing how so many things happen in our body without us even knowing. Zombie was initially an science fiction concept but now its not limited to just fiction.

Very Informative.Senolytics are used for the treatment of aging and chronic diseases;as the trials are undergoing the results are very good but much more human data is needed to analyse the safety, optimal use and long term effects of drug on patients.

I think senolytics are a very interesting and hopeful idea. These drugs can remove the “zombie cells” that stay in the body and may cause aging and health problems. If scientists can make them safe and effective, they might help people live healthier for a longer time.

This is a very informative post.
Senolytics are drugs that selectively clear senescent cells. Cellular senescence is a condition where cells stops dividing and accumulates in the body which in turns accelerates aging and age related disorders.

Senolytics have shown a remarkable impact in animal studies. However, it is yet to be used in human population for treatment as the clinical studies are still ongoing to demonstrate safety, effectiveness, low toxicity, tolerability and target engagement.

Found interesting! Thank you for sharing. Just overviewed the details and found that senolytics work on multiple network nodes (SCAP) and not just a single pathway, enzyme. According to me, this part of their mechanism of action makes them effective.

Wow, this is such an interesting thing to learn today. You are the best for sharing something new and innovative. I think so this will be a hype in few years if developed properly, as people are also finding ways to be more youthful, with a plus point of getting rid of some diseases.

It is interesting to learn about “zombie cells” and their impact on the aging process. Preclinical studies have demonstrated the promising effects of senolytic drugs in addressing a range of conditions, including frailty, cancer, cardiovascular and neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as liver and kidney diseases, and complications related to transplantation. These findings are commendable but more research is needed to fully explore the beneficial effect of the senolytic drug.
