You become what you think

The neuronal connections in our brain are often made and broken when new patterns are formed and forgotten. Our brain does not prioritise our goals, it prioritises what we think, feel and do repeatedly.

We repeat things until we form a habit. That happens because whenever you do something some neurons in your brain fire together and overtime these neurons begin to form connections with each other, strengthening that pathway.

The more the pathway is used the more efficient it becomes. That is the reason why laziness can become a habit. If you consistently overthink or have negative thoughts the brain will get wired to amplify those thoughts and it would turn into a belief that cannot be changed easily.

Hence it is rightly said “You become what you think”

So if you want to change your body, your confidence or your academics and life itself, you don’t need a new goal or new equipments or tools. You need to change your patterns. If you’re sleeping at 2:00 am, you cannot abruptly change that and sleep at 12:00 the next day but you can always sleep half an hour early until a new pattern is formed.

Also, I had a question about the relationship between this theory and homeopathy; is homeopathy really a placebo? Why does it work better for some people and doesn’t work at all for some?

Please share your thoughts.

Very well put. Neurons fire constantly as we repeat a certain task on a daily basis, which is exactly why doomscrolling is very hard to break. Our brain doesn’t differentiate between good and bad tasks. That is something only we understand, and if we want to lead a better life, we need to change our patterns.

Well written. Always the small steps lead to bigger and remarkable changes.

Absolutely. We tend to catch on bad habits quickly because they reward us with dopamine and we repeat them for more dopamine forming a pattern. This is especially true for doomscrolling.

Neuroplasticity is an amazing way of our body to learn new things and unlearn old patterns.
